THE Scottish Parliament election saw the curtain come down on 20 years' service as an MSP for Stewart Stevenson.
Initially entering the Scottish Parliament in a by-election in 2001 in the then Banff and Buchan seat – previously held by Alex Salmond – Mr Stevenson went on to hold the roles of Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change and then Minister for Environment and Climate Change.
His seat, now called Banffshire and Buchan Coast, was held for the SNP by Karen Adam, albeit after a nail-biting tussle with the Tories.
Mr Stevenson revealed that this is by no means his first attempt at retiring.
"This is actually my fourth attempt at retiring, the first being back in 1999," he said.
"I have to say that getting up and looking at an empty diary is disconcerting.
"I do have things to do I just haven't got my diary organised, which is going to be one of my first tasks."
