HARIPUR: A district council member was killed on the district court premises here on Saturday.

Junaid Sher Khan gunned down Javed Khan after the latter appeared before a local court for the confirmation of his pre-arrest bail in a case.

The councillor was targeted when he was going to the parking lot of the district court.

The attacker tried to flee by scaling the boundary wall of the premises but failed and fractured his ankle.

The police took him in custody.

When the councillor was attacked, the police guards stood atop the court building.

In May last, gunmen had ambushed seven guards of Javed Khan near Chamba Bridge here.

All the guards were killed in the attack but Javed Khan remained unhurt.

Javed Khan was elected member of the Haripur District Council from Kholian Bala Union Council as an independent candidate. He later joined the PML-N.
